Wellcome bacK!!
September is here! A lovely month to all of you!!
Back to schools, back to a new season!!! Hot summer is still here but our mood is changing :)) We are full of energy and ready for a new start. Every September I have this strange feeling I want to go back to school, read new books, discover the world from the beginning. :)
At kivotos gallery new ideas and new items are coming in during this month and experimental work by 46 artists is going to become reality during the following months. I look forward...
I wish all of you to have a lovely autumn!!!

Eleftheriou Jewellery
One of the most respectable workshops in Athens is Eleftherioy Jewellery. It is a family tradition that passes from generation to generation. Today Maria and Demetris work together with their parents bringing in the new ideas for silver or gold jewellery. Soon I will write more details about their work.

Kaiti Anastasaki
I met Kaiti Anastasaki at her workshop in Athens, surely one of the most impressive workspaces I have visited in Greece. She was sitting at her worktable with a small tool in her hand, adding defining lines to a large clay bowl. Next to her, a coworker sat carving a clay figure of a woman with a small scalpel. Kaiti's first workshop opened in 1980 in Crete. Since then, her production and popularity have multiplied many times. I was impressed to see that despite the demand for her work, all the pieces were still being made by hand and with patient detail.
Kaiti's ceramics are symbolistic, some with a touch of surrealism. Although deep inside her designs are ancient Greek roots, her collection stands out among other bodies of work as being artistically innovative, rich in textures and new concepts. Kaiti works mainly with stoneware clay fired at 1250 ºC and up, but her designs in clay can include anything from glass, iron, wood, or engravings to achieve the desired feel and perspective. The decorative colors are added using basic oxides and her own handmade glazes. The range of her work is almost immeasurable. She uses geometrical designs, like her "Cubists" and "Robots"and impressionistic human forms as in her piece "Boulis". Her collection includes everything from functional furniture, oversized wall art, colorful mosaics, mirrors, and miniatures. Her ceramics are easily distinguishable from others for their illustrative style and premium quality.

Titanium jewellery!
Titanium is a chemical element with the symbol Ti and atomic number 22. It is a light, strong, lustrous, corrosion-resistant (including to sea water and chlorine) transition metal with a grayish color.
Is a very friendly metal το the human body without it creates allergies; this is also one of the basic reasons that were also used in jeweler’s trade.
The coloring is caused by the presence of a very thin transparent oxide film on the metal surface, and that the color seen is dependent on the film.
The colors are purely an optical effect, no dyes or pigments are involving, they are controlled solely by the thickness of the film and anything which affects the thickness of the film will affect the color seen. Consequently, the color are permanent and unchanging as long as the film remains intact, but dirt or grease films will degrade or change the colors and reduction of the film thickness by abrasion or scratching or other means may permanently change or lower the intensity of the colors.

Three lines studio.
Konstantina Pardali and Demosthenis Kokkalis, since 1989, create unique hand made pieces of contemporary ceramics.
They use a version of the ancient Greek technique "terra sigilata" for the decoration of these items and a firing technique similar to the Japanese Raku. This technique involves smoke, produced after dipping the red hot objects in shavings. The result is spots and traces on the surface of the clay.
Those amazing pieces of high quality craftsmanship are never out of fashion and they always look elegant and classy!!
You can find all their new work at Kivotos gallery.

Precious rain!!
My dear friends!
It is raining and its your holiday!
Travelers don't like it at all. Our precious sun is hiding behind grey clouds. But for Cyprus this rain is like gold. It is actually lifesaving.
Maybe you can discover Cyprus in a different way. You can visit "white" Olympos and have dinner next to a fireplace in a small tavern...
Cyprus hospitality it is a reality and you will get this feeling all over the island in any weather.
Please have.... a big smile on your face when you are talking about the awfully rainy weather!!!!

Carnival is here!!!
Carnival is here and we are happy!!!!
Although Limassol is the ..carnival city of Cyprus, we are all ready to find our new persona and enjoy being ...some-one-else!!!
Last Thursday was the beginning of the carnival festivities. The "entrance" of King Carnavalos in every city. On Sunday the children parate in Limassol was great to introduce everybody in the carnival spirit. Parties and special carnival songs concerts will go on every day until next week. On Sunday the Limassol big parate will be ..glamorous as every year. Everybody should feel free to dress up these days, visit friends houses and enjoy the unique spirit of carnival.

Cyprus modern art
A lot of the "first time" visitors often ask me If what they see at Kivotos gallery is traditional Cyprus art.
I always explain that tradition is (like)a solid base to step on and go on. I recovered some of my favorite links of modern art in Cyprus. Please follow those links and hopefully this new window will help you to see our island in different eye.
